Simple Blessing

My daughter just announced her engagement and so everyone is both happy and excited for her as she begins to plan her wedding. As father of the bride to be it is a time to reflect and praise God. Reflect on how blessed I am to have such a beautiful and intelligent young woman tell me she loves me. Yet knowing that now there is another man she loves just that wee bit more than me.

My mind drifts back to her birth and the first day I saw her. To the miraculous healing by God of her hip that allowed her to be able to walk for the first time without collapsing. Her graduation ceremony from university and the many other steps on a journey a father captures in his heart.

My simple prayer this morning is to be blessed to walk her down the aisle. This simple blessing many take for granted is so special to me because in the absence of my father I had to walk my sister down the aisle and though we know he was there in spirit we both cried that he was not there in person as he had gone home to be with the Lord many years before.

I cannot convey in words feelings of love that reach so deep inside. To have and to hold from this day forth and then she will be on a new journey or rather a new part of her journey. Our children are our legacy to the future. They go to a future where one day we cannot. Time is not cruel it is simply a law of the universe and as it passes we know that we are subject to it whether we wish to obey it or not.

Today is your day or one of them. Fill it with kind words and caring deeds, acts of tenderness and loving thoughts and in this your day take a moment just one simple moment to thank God for it.
