The Warrior

And let me tell you of another time,
And a man who was a friend of mine,
I celebrate his life in words and rhyme,
Yet still he lives in this heart of mine.

You know him not as he lies in this plot,
In Texas neath no flowers or forget-me-nots,
A dry wind above him blows,
And a government marker is all that shows.

A grateful nation his name has forgot,
Only a few of us still visit this hallowed spot,
A true warrior lies in this dusty plot,
For our freedom he gave such a lot.

Front Line

I bow my head to pray,
And thank Him for another day,
We made it through till dark,
And my boots are off at last.

My weary back its tension eases,
Friends around me breathe and relax,
Removing body armor and back packs,
No one we lost this day.

Yes I know tomorrow will come,
And we will leave with the rising sun,
To take charge of our guns,
And danger face again.

I know they think me a fool,
They laugh at me in gilded halls,
Yet I am the one who does not forget,
Those who died were innocent.

No photo op I will seek,
My friend today I will keep,
That he again his loved ones may greet,
And I again with you may sleep.

On and on we must go,
We believe and we tell you so,
Courage I see every day,
Though none at home holds sway.

Mother America

Mother America I am black and successful,
I know the pain and suffering of your children,
I give of my heart as you give of yours,
We both weep over your lost loved ones.

I pray to God and give thanks,
That He has blessed me and mine,
That I may in my quiet way,
Give back to thee and thine.

Little steps are all I can take,
Yet in compassion these I make,
No one I ask to thank or remember me,
My savior said what you do for the least you do for Me.

Farewell to a Soldier

In the mists of time we seem to drown,
Lost faces and memories there abound,
And if we linger in the past,
It is only on a love that lasts.

Of days gone by and friends we knew,
Of the times we spent alas too few,
And if tonight I start to cry,
It is not with sadness in my eye.

You see a blessing from heaven I was sent,
The time with you on earth I spent,
Are memories caught in time,
Of you and me and love that binds.

So tonight I shed a tear,
Over all we that held dear,
And though you are no longer here,
My memory takes me there.

You are night and I am day,
I am the one who on earth does pray,
Giving thanks that on that day,
We parted friends forever.

And as I stand where you do lie,
A tear it leaves my weary eye,
As happy times I reminisce,
And thank God for shared heavenly bliss.

Her Voice

I hear you gently calling me,
Across the miles, across the sea,
In the distance you say to me,
Son of Albion come home.

Walk my sandy shores,
Stroll my mountain sides,
By my rivers rest and abide,
Son of Scotia come home.

My memory you stir in me,
My heart it beats for thee,
I am a part of thee,
Mother Scotland I am coming home.

In The Beginning

I received an e-mail from an excited friend tonight to let me know that she had her first book published. I now have a friend who is a published author. Kind of neat. Knowing her dynamic personality and business acumen I look forward not only to more books being published but business seminars and motivational speeches on the subject. As Napoleon Hill once wrote it only takes one good idea to become rich and she most certainly has many.

Tonight I have to add to her credits as it was at her insistence that I started writing this blog and when from time to time I cease to update it am sure to receive a friendly "nudge" to get back to it. So in the beginning so to speak she was also behind this humble work and though that may not be a great credit to her name it is to me special because through her caring heart I have captured in the written word some of my feelings on this journey through life.
